The Stettler Skatepark has come a long way since the first one was built in the corner of the Recreation Centre parking lot.

Now with the second phase of the Stettler Skatepark nearing completion, the original vision of the fundraising committee will be achieved.

The focus of the expansion is a bowl that will measure just over 5’ at the deep end and 4 at the shallow end, and was part of the original 2014 plan for the park. Other features include transition banks, and a new area that can be ridden on or used for seating, a 5’ tall quarter pipe hip, and a 6’ tall quarter pipe extension.

The expansion has been accomplished with funds from both the town and the Stettler Skatepark Association. The association turned over $65,000 that had been left over from funds raised for the original build to the town for use in the expansion project. The town approved the remaining $150,000 from the 2021 Capital Budget. The expansion is being done by New Line Skateparks which has offices in BC, Alberta, Florida, California and Ontario.

The Manager of Recreation and Culture, Brad Robbins, says that the skatepark is town owned and operated. He explains that the park is fairly low maintenance.

“The Skatepark is a very well used community facility that provides free of charge physical activity for its users.” -Brad Robbins.

The project is expected to be completed and properly landscaped by the end of September.

Robbins says that riders may be able to access the expansion even before then.
