February 3, 2021 – Stettler, Alta: On February 2nd, 2021, Town of Stettler Council approved
the 2021 Capital Budget in the amount of $4,549,191. The budget was initially introduced to
Council at the public Capital Budget Deliberation Session on January 25th, where Department
Heads from Operational Services, Parks and Leisure Services, Planning & Development,
Administration and the Stettler Regional Fire Department presented their proposed
expenditures.
The primary focus of the 2021 Capital Budget is ongoing infrastructure renewal such as water
line replacements, lift station upgrades, and roadway, sidewalk and pathway rehabilitation.
Key projects from the 2021 Capital Budget include the Mainstreet Streetscape, which involves the removal and replacement of existing watermain and lead services, concrete replacement,
pedestrian bulbing, and aesthetic features such as planters and benches. Additional operational projects include the second phase of the 44th Avenue rehabilitation between Highway 56 and Highway 12, and the construction of the south half of a type four (4) intersection at Highway 12 and 80th Street. The Stettler Regional Fire Department has budgeted for several improvements, including the replacement of the radio system and a three-story drill tower for firefighter training.
“What all of Administration and Council carry unanimously is that this budget does not ignore any key projects that need to be done, like keeping our infrastructure intact and in modern condition, while still delivering some amenities so that this complex time we are in might have some bright spots.” -Mayor Sean Nolls
The approval of the Capital Budget follows the adoption of the 2021 Interim Operating Budget
on December 15th, 2020. In accordance with the Municipal Government Act, the Capital Budget includes a five (5) year budget forecast, projecting into 2025.
