The Stettler P&H elevator Preservation Society hosted their annual Harvest Supper on the elevator grounds this past Saturday.

Guests filled the grounds early in the afternoon, while volunteers demonstrated several pieces of equipment that have been restored, and can be found on their property. Included in the demonstrations was the society’s, ‘Little Giant’ threshing machine, built in 1887 and restored for demonstration purposes. Another demonstration was the use of a tractor-driven saw.

While visitors watched demonstrations or took tours of the facility, volunteers slaved over a wood-burning stove to make fresh bread, cookies, and other parts of the old-tyme country harvest meal. The wood-burning stove was donated to the society several years ago by the Baltimore Family and the wooden cart that it is kept on, was built by the late Joe Baltimore. Joe's family used to use it in the fields at harvest time.

In one of the Preservation Society’s outbuildings an electric flour grinder was turning and volunteers explained to guests how it worked. The flour used for the loaves of bread served at the dinner was from this small flour making machine.

Society member, and the man who started the ball rolling to purchase the elevator from P&H when the company formally closed it down, Stan Eichhorn, was happy to see so many people out at the event.

A beautiful day and an amazing home cooked meal made for a wonderful afternoon at Stettler's historic P&H Elevator.
