Music in the Park series turns 15 this year.

To celebrate, the Town of Stettler is asking Stettlerites to name Central Alberta musicians they want to see on stage this summer.

"This year we want to see what musicians people have heard around central Alberta and invite them," says Brad Robbins, Manager of Recreation & Culture for the Town of Stettler. "It’s a little bit new doing it this way, and we've gotten a pretty good response through social media."

Normally the Town has a "call list" of artists they contact. Some groups have performed at West Stettler Park a few times, yet there's always room for new talent.

Music in the Park, formerly Entertainment in the Park, began in 2009, and seemed specifically designed for West Stettler Park.

"It was a way to increase our cultural arts & culture activities in the community," says Robbins. "Around 2009 we had some really popular groups coming out of Stettler, for example, Renegade Station."

The goal is to feature as much talent as possible from Central Alberta, although some acts have come from as far away as Calgary.

The Town arranges contracts with the bands, supplies the power, and promotes the concerts. The groups themselves provide sound equipment and crews.

“It's a great place to connect with friends and neighbours," says Robbins, "and that’s what living in a small town is all about.”
