Where are you from? Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Mirror, AB, and went to high school in Camrose.
Why do you (did you) choose Stettler as home?
My sister lived here when I moved back to Canada from Tennessee, which was supposed to be just for the summer. I enjoyed the small-town atmosphere, as I am myself from a village. I hadn’t lived around here since I was 14, so it was very nostalgic for me to come back to this area. I have made some amazing friends here and although I’ve moved around a bit with my job, I chose here to purchase my home and commute to work instead. I feel safe here and feel that my kids are safe as well.
What do you do? What is your full title?
I am a Commercial Banker ( Sr. Account Manager ) for the Business Development Bank of Canada, a Crown Corporation of the Federal Government.
Family?
My partner is Dylan Andersen, a Carpenter who works for his family business ( B&B Construction ), I have a 16-year-old son Jackson and a 3-year-old daughter, Ryann, 2 dogs, and 2 cats !!
Education?
I did study at the U of A for a time, but most of my experience and education has been on the job. I have been in management roles since I was 17. I’ve had amazing mentors and leaders, a ton of hard work, and internal training and experience.
Who inspired you in your youth? Wow … big question! Define YOUTH ?? lol …Hundreds of Musicians and songwriters that I loved, Dolly Parton, Reba, Elvis, Madonna, Micheal Jackson, Patsy Cline, my 3rd-grade music teacher, some of my lifelong friends, my District Manager at my first full-time retail job, although I have had many mentors in life! Nashville always inspired me and my desire to get there, even though that’s not a WHO My mother inspired me, in death, to become someone that she would have been proud of. In my heart, in my life, and in my character.
Who inspires you now?
My kids inspire me to be the best person that I can be, and they drive me to succeed, for them. My clients inspire me, with their resilience, creativity, and dedication to their work, employees, and their visions. There still are 100 musicians and songwriters who inspire me … music inspires me like nothing else can. Other good humans inspire me, or rather, give me hope that they are out there at least!
Do you have any hobbies?
I have maaaaannnyyy hobbies ( not that I have much time for them these days !! ) But IF I did, and when I do, I play my guitar and sing, I refurbish furniture, I renovate, I like to do fun things with my kids, I travel and I love to do yardwork ( once again, when I have time which isn’t much lately … ) I love the beach, water, road trips and adventure!
What are your plans for the future?
Well I am trying to find balance somehow Slow down a little bit and smell the roses more. I have some places that I would like to travel, I plan to focus on music more soon, once my daughter is a little less dependent on me. Start a music project that I am excited about, some songwriting, a band doing music that I love, etc. I love my job, but I do think about the day, when I can retire and do all of those hobbies and passions that I was talking about earlier! Maybe buy a lake house or vacation place somewhere. I’d like to volunteer for an animal rescue when I know that I can commit the time. I am all about helping my kids follow their own passions, be who they were meant to be and to follow their dreams as well.
Anything else you would like to add about being a resident of Stettler?
I didn’t have a very good first experience living in Stettler if I’m being honest. It can be a tough place to integrate into as many people are 3rd and 4th generation, known each other all their lives, etc. It wasn’t until I moved for my job, that I really missed it and the good friends and colleagues that I had made here. The good outweighed the bad and I learned not to care about all of the unimportant stuff that was outward and not about me. There is something so quaint about Stettler. The walking paths, the parks, the gravel roads, and wildlife, seeing someone you know in the grocery store or waving as they drive by. It takes 5 mins to get across town at most…I’ve been a lot of places, but Stettler is a special little place, mostly, because of the people here. In my role as a Commercial Banker, I am dedicated to supporting local businesses as much as possible, to do my part, to keep Stettler viable and thriving for future generations.
