Local Spotlight on Michelle Fisher

StettlerLocal.com Aug 2, 2022 @ 2:10pm

Where are you from? Where did you grow up?

I come from an RCMP family so we moved around a lot but spent most of my life in Vegreville, AB.

Why do you (did you) choose Stettler as home?

My husband worked for TC Energy for years and was offered a job in the Stettler office. It was a good career move so we left our home in Wainwright and settled here. I had been here a few times visiting friends and knew it would be a good fit for our family. It has been 21 years and we still enjoy living in this community.

What do you do? What is your full title?

I have worked at ATB Financial as a Customer Service Representative for almost 16 years.

Education?

I have a diploma from NAIT in Business Administration. Besides high school I have taken some courses for my job. If you have any questions about FINTRAC just ask!

Family?

My husband Lee and I recently celebrated our 31st anniversary. We have two girlies: Mackenzie (29) who lives in Montreal and works for the IRCC and Kennedy (26) who lives in Saskatoon working as an RN in the NICU.

Who inspired you in your youth? My Dad, for sure. To me he was good at everything; construction, cooking, making Halloween costumes and answering any question you had during a movie. Dad was such a positive person, always looking on the good side of things, loved to tell jokes and was such a good influence on the youth in Vegreville through his hockey and ball coaching. Everyone who knew him loved him. I miss him every day.

Who inspires you now?

My girlies - they both have such strong work ethics. They set goals for themselves and work hard to achieve them. Both enjoy learning, whether it's a new language or becoming a personal trainer. I always find out something new when we get the chance to visit.

Do you have any hobbies?

I volunteer with Animal Haven Rescue, which can be very rewarding and heartbreaking at the same time. So many animals need help just to survive and we try hard to rescue as many as we can. It doesn't leave me with much free time but when I do have a minute I enjoy reading, have tried my hand at cross stitch and am trying to learn more about flowers and gardening in general to try and pretty up our yard.

What are your plans for the future?

I love to travel to places with a lot of history so Lee and I are planning on a trip to Europe in the near future. We would like to visit England, particularly the Cornwall area, and also visit some sites pertaining to the war like Juno, Normandy and Flanders.

Anything else you would like to add about being a member of the community in Stettler County?

When we were first came to Stettler to check it out before moving I was impressed with the vibrant downtown area, the recreation facilities and schools. I still appreciate all of these things and feel it is a wonderful community to call home.
