Central Alberta Business Centre hosted the first of what will be a monthly event called “Cash Mob” yesterday.
Nick Schmidt, Manager of Central Alberta Business Centre said that when he heard of this type of event, he knew that he wanted to see it in our community.
“We talked to the organizer from a nearby community about how the event was working for them and they shared some good tips with us. It is helping pull communities together and support their local businesses at a time when everyone needs it most. It’s a lot of fun for the shoppers and they learn about their local businesses. The first business was chosen but for future events, local residents can nominate a business to be mobbed on the business centre website. Those business names will be put together in a hat and Schmidt will draw a business name to mob.
Participants gathered at the business centre after 5:00pm and at 5:30pm the business announced was Sneakers Plus.
Sneaker’s Plus, we learned, has been in business in Stettler for 5 years and has two part-time employees. Owner Cindy Campbell said she opened Sneakers Plus because she wanted her own business and she liked shoes.
Campbell surprised mobbers with a special discount list and shopping ensued. One shopper was there to start on their Christmas shopping stating that they were going to use the monthly Cash Mob events to focus on buying local for Christmas.
Sneakers Plus has an extensive brand list and Campbell is able to order in many brands and types of shoes. One shopper asked about replacing the runners they were wearing and Campbell knew the brand, when they were made and how to get them a new pair.
Among the items bought during the Cash Mob; fun socks, t-shirts, toques, lanyards, shoes, hoodies and a belt.
Sneaker’s Plus is in the Stettler Mall and is open Monday through Thursday 10:00 - 6:00 PM, Friday 10:00 - 8:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 - 6:00pm and Sunday 11:00 - 5:00 PM. You can also shop their extensive list of brands and products on their online store at sneakersplus.ca.
