Botha School was recently very excited to welcome visitors Dani and Mark from Trickster Theatre.

The Trickster Theatre Company is based out of Calgary, and they brought their ‘Artist in School Residency’ program to Botha School for a week to teach students about the performing arts. The week culminated in a fun performance for the students' families and the community.

Mrs. Pat Martin, Principal of Botha School, said, “The Botha School Society and Ms. Burton were instrumental in getting Trickster to our school.

The students learned group improv skills and the use of everyday items such as blankets, shadows, and toilet plungers to create theatre. Dani and Mark brought lighting and sound systems, props and costumes, but the stories acted out came from the Botha students.

The first and second graders told a story about cows on the moon, kindergarteners enjoyed being chickens, the third and fourth graders told a story about the theft of the Underwood Flying Machine, and the fifth and sixth graders performed a shadow play, “Images of Botha.”

Mrs. Martin said, “All students had the opportunity to participate, and all seemed to enjoy themselves.”

Everyone who attended the March 18th show enjoyed the performances, which accepted donations for the Food Bank for admission.
