Stettler Film Circuit, the film festival partnership between the Stettler Public Library and the Jewel Theatre, is back for the second half of the 2021-2022 season. We have a wonderful mix of documentaries and drama with some smiles and laughs thrown in for good measure. Remember these movies run on the first Monday of the month and the Thursday immediately following at 7 pm, and tickets are $10 each at the library or the door.

On February 7th and 10th, join us for a stroll down to Sesame Street when we watch the documentary Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street. We will be entertained by those iconic furry characters and sing along to those songs we know by heart as we learn how a gang of visionary creators changed our world. This film was rescheduled for October 2021, so passes and tickets purchased for that showing will be honoured.

In March, learn more about the legendary cookbook author and woman who woke up North Americans to great food. On March 7th and 10th, we will be inspired by Julia, a documentary that will make you want to cook! Julia tells the story of the legendary cookbook author and television superstar Julia Child, who changed how Americans think about food, television, and even women.

Then, because we love stories about families, April 4th and 7th brings you the debut film of writer-director Stephen Karam in an adaptation of his Tony Award-winning play, “The Humans.” Erik Blake has gathered three generations of his family to celebrate Thanksgiving at his daughter’s apartment in lower Manhattan. As darkness falls and eerie things start to go bump in the night, the group’s deepest fears are laid bare.

On May 2nd and 5th, join us for the Spanish movie “Parallel Mothers” starring Penelope Cruz. We will follow the story of two women, Janis and Ana, as they meet for the first time in a hospital room while they are in labour. Both are there without partners, though only one has made peace with that. The few words they exchange will create a very close link between the two, which develops and changes their lives in a decisive way. The film links this tale of the two mothers to one of a country confronting the truth of its past; in particular, the estimated 114,000 people killed in the Spanish Civil War’s Francoist Repression.

We are pleased to announce that the Stettler Film Circuit will be entertaining you all year round. Watch for details about the summer selections coming soon at the Stettler Public Library and the Jewel Theatre.
