Stettler Spotlight on Dave McCourt

Where are you from?

Kitscoty Alberta. 15 miles west of Lloydminster

Where did you grow up?

On the farm in Kitscoty until I was 17

Why do you (did you) choose Stettler as home?

Came to work for B/A Petroleum at the Nevis Gas Plant

What do you do?

Owner/operator of Woodcraft by Dave

Tell us about your family?

Married to Evelyn McCourt. Our daughter Heather is a nurse in Ponoka. Our son Murray is a Golf Pro in Edmonton.

Why do you choose to be a resident of Stettler?

It’s been a great place to work and raise a family. The only way I’ll leave, is if they drag me out of here.

Tell us about your education?

Formally trained as a first class Power Engineer. Self-taught woodworker. (Woodworking was originally a hobby.)

Who inspired you in your youth?

The only name that comes to mind is Miss Dunsmore. She was my English/French Teacher in High School. She believed in me.

Who inspires you now?

All of the talented people around Stettler. There are many of them in many different fields.

Do you have any hobbies?

Since my hobby of woodworking became my job, my new hobby is restoring old cars.

(Dave figures he has 8 in various states of restoration.)

What are your plans for the future?

To keep doing what I’m doing until I fall down in the saw dust. Retirement is a dirty word.

Thank you to Dave McCourt for agreeing to be our Stettler Spotlight this week!
