After a couple of rocky years due to the ongoing pandemic, Stettler Minor Soccer has opened its registration for the upcoming 2022 season, hoping to return to mostly ‘normal’ operations.

Players are grouped into age categories. U5, U7, and U9 are ‘House League’ teams, and there are usually 6-10 teams in each age group. These teams play each other and always play in Stettler. The season for the House League teams is from the first of May until the end of June. Fees for this age range from $80 - $105. House league teams practice and play twice per week.

U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19 are ‘travel’ teams. Each of these age groups generally has a male and female team. They travel and play throughout Central Alberta (approximately an hour’s drive in any direction). Travel teams practice 1-2 times per week and play games 1-2 times per week. The season for travel teams begins mid-April and ends around the second week of July. Fees for these teams are $200/player.

There is no required parent volunteer commitment, but parents are encouraged to volunteer as coaches. This year coaching clinics are planned for Stettler to help parents learn more about the role. The Stettler Minor Soccer association does no fundraising through the teams.

Stettler Minor Soccer President CJ Oprea says that SMS is also looking for officials this year. These paid officials can be aged 14 and up, and information on becoming a certified referee can be found on the SMS website.

Check out the Stettler Minor Soccer Website or Facebook page for more information on signing up or volunteering.
