The Stettler District 4H council decided that Communications Competitions would be held virtually this year for the eight clubs from Byemoor, Big Valley, Botha, Erskine, Stettler and Bashaw. Members of each club who placed first or second in their club’s competition were given the opportunity to compete at the district level by submitting videos online that were shared with local judges.
There are three age categories; Juniors 9-11 years old, Intermediates 12-14 years old, and Seniors 15-21 years old (as of Jan 1, 2022).
Members who place first or second in the district competitions from each age category can compete in the East Central Regional Competitions. Senior members can qualify for the Provincial competition. For Presentations, this will be held in person in Delia on March 26, and in Public Speaking, members will travel to Consort on March 27th.
Presentations are members using physical props or photographs to tell stories. For example, some describe making something using the actual ingredients and tools, while others use pictures to illustrate their speech.
This year 11 members (or groups) competed in the three age categories for presentations.

3rd - Haylee Weatherly of Stettler Silver Stars with “True Crime”
Public Speaking is a communication competition where members are only allowed cue cards, no costumes or props.
Twenty-four members competed in the three age categories in Public Speaking this year.
