"I thought, Let's try it and see what happens," says Andrea Webster.
Webster, organizer of the Big Valley Closet Clean Out, which was held during the last Summer Market of 2023, explains why she started the annual clothing sale event.
"The idea came about after I attended one put on by a friend in Morrin in Spring of 2022," she says. "We hosted our first Closet Sale in October of 2022. Morrin area hosts one in the spring & Big Valley area hosts one in the fall."
The fall sale focuses on winter wear, such as jackets, scarves, and sweaters. Some of the items are donated, while others are on consignment.
Any leftover items after the sale are donated to Central Alberta charities, such as the Mustard Seed in Red Deer and Coats for Kids/FCSS in Stettler.
Even though it's a bit early in the year to be thinking about warm woollies, there's always the chance winter could arrive sooner than expected.
Webster was pleased with the turnout at the sale, especially considering it was a sunny August weekend.
She says a 3rd Annual Closet Clean Out Sale is planned for the fall of 2024.
