Semi and minivan collide on Hwy 12

Shortly before 1 pm on January 12, 2021, Stettler Regional Fire & Rescue, alongside Emergency Medical Services and Stettler RCMP, were dispatched to a call of a motor vehicle incident involving a tractor truck and a minivan on Highway 12 just west of Stettler, Alberta.


Once on scene emergency personnel controlled traffic and maintained a perimeter around the collision. The truck, towing a b-train flat deck trailer containing freight, could be seen in the eastbound lane with significant damage to the front end. The minivan was in the ditch of the westward lane and one person, a woman in her 60s, was trapped inside the minivan requiring extraction.


STARS was on standby initially but was dismissed once the situation was surveyed by the first responders on scene. Firefighters worked diligently to open the minivan to free the trapped woman as traffic backed up along the highway. With many motorists seen to detour around the incident using nearby gravel roads at the behest of officers.


Work continued into the afternoon as responders tended to the collision and completed their investigation into the nature of the crash.


Shortly after 2 pm, the scene was cleared and emergency crews had vacated the area.


Currently there is no information regarding the extent of possible injuries, persons involved or cause of the accident, but no fatalities are attributed to the scene at the time of this report.
