Stettler band Renegade Station has once again made the second ballot for the Country Music Association of Alberta awards on March 19-20 in Red Deer. The band has been nominated for the Horizon Group or Duo Video of the year for ‘Free Free Free,’ Single of the Year for ‘Free Free Free,’ and Musician of the Year for band member Scott McKnight.
Like many other bands and musicians, the ongoing pandemic has made working difficult. Band member Luanne Carl said that they worked hard to keep up with the music scene and did a lot of online shows. Due to pandemic restrictions, they went seven and a half months in 2021 without performing live. Luanne explained that interviews with radio and TV stations from across Canada were the only thing easier during the pandemic as the band was able to do these from home.
The band released their single, Free Free Free in April 2021. It reached the Top 60 in Canada and is their second-highest charting song, with the first being Who’s Gonna Love Me Tonight which peaked at top 50 in Canada.
With COVID shutting down venues across Canada last year, the band had time to consider where they wanted to go with their music and shows, and the result is ‘Solid Gold Station Nights’ debuting live on February 5, 2022, at the Jewel Theatre. The new show will feature the band's favourite cover songs and their original material. It is sure to be a memorable night of great country music.
