Local Spotlight on Skyla Attfield

StettlerLocal.com January 25, 2022 @ 2:00pm

Where are you from? Where did you grow up?

Born in Big Valley, grew up in Red Deer.

Why do you (did you) choose Stettler as home?

I have always loved watching Gilmore Girls growing up, and always craved to live in a small community like Star Hallow. I met my spouse in 2014 and we started raising our kids in Red Deer. We realized how much we craved for life to slow down and raise our children around family. My spouse grew up in Big Valley and he still had family roots here, so in 2021 as life became uncertain we knew it was time to move, slow down and raise our kids in this wonderful community we now call home.

What do you do? What is your full title?

Office Administrative Assistant

Education?

Grade 12 Diploma

Family?

Married for 4 years and 2 children (9 years old and 5 years old)

Who inspired you in your youth? My mother. Raised 3 children on her own. We were always raised to respect our elders, live and work with integrity, and own up to our mistakes. She never pretended to be perfect, she has spent the better part of life putting her broken pieces back together. Always leading by example and in a world today, I will admire the strength it took to be honest with her kids about mental health and what is important in life.

Who inspires you now?

My children. They inspire me to be the best version of myself every morning we wake up. They teach me something new every day and we learn and grow together. I want nothing more in life than knowing they were raised with kindness, empathy, integrity and respect for themselves and others.

Do you have any hobbies?

Painting, writing and creating.

What are your plans for the future?

To see my children off to college and then travel the world with my partner.

Anything else you would like to add about being a resident of Stettler County?

I would love to see more recreation within the Village of Big Valley. To see the trains return and be a tourist attraction just like it once was.
