Highlights from the Regular Council Meeting held on December 9, 2021

  • Audit 2020 was received for information.

  • Proposed Procedure Bylaw was tabled to January pending further review.

  • Subdivision and Development Appeal Board Bylaw – 2nd and 3rd readings were given to this and passed.

  • FCSS Grant Funding Applications – Friends of the Library, EFree Church, and Canadian Northern Society requests were approved. Big Valley Minor Hockey was denied due to not fitting the FCSS funding criteria.

  • Public Auction – tabled to the January meeting pending further financial information.

  • Red Deer River Watershed Alliance request for donation tabled to the January meeting pending a representative to attend to answer some questions.

  • Administration request for Resident Information was approved and will be sent out in the next Big Valley utility billing.

  • Interim Operating budget was approved with capital and operating budgets coming to the January meeting.

  • Letter of Support for the Big Valley Drop-In Centre was approved.

  • A gift for retired Fire Chief, Lori Gordon, was approved and coming forward.


It was sadly reported that the students at Big Valley School will not be performing on Friday evening’s event (Dec 17) at Christmas in the Village due to temperatures dropping below -30. We thank all the students for working so hard on their carols.


Christmas in the Village will continue, dress warm, bring blankets for wagon rides and enjoy the festivities!


Big Valley Drop-in Centre News

The Big Valley Drop-in Center is open to ALL Big Valley Seniors 50+. Please contact the President or Vice-President Kathy Evans at (403-876-2033) or Sue Boswell (403-876-2031) for details.

Annual AGM

Please be advised that there will be an annual general meeting on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022 at 1pm in the Drop-in Center. We will be voting for a new executive and reviewing the year. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend as well as any seniors wishing to join.

If you have not already done so, membership fees are due. Membership is $10.00 per person and can be paid at the meeting or dropped off to Kathy Evans or Sue Boswell
