In September, we celebrate Alberta Culture Days, and Stettler is gearing up to celebrate the 4th Annual Alberta Culture Days at several locations throughout town. Here are a few highlights to be found at the Stettler Public Library.

The Stettler Public Library is privileged to welcome award-winning author Richard Van Camp on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:30 pm. Richard is a proud Tlicho Dene from Fort Smith, NWT and lives in Edmonton (Treaty 6 Territory) with his family. He is a best-selling author of 26 books, and his novel, The Lesser Blessed, is now a feature film with First Generation Films and is available on CBC Gem for free. As you can see, Richard is a very accomplished man, and he will be sharing his wisdom on reclaiming your family medicines. He will join us at the Library via Zoom, and I really don’t want you to miss this. I had the privilege of listening to Richard speak recently, and he is one of the most entertaining and vibrant speakers that I have heard in a long time. I’m sure that you will enjoy his presentation. Readers can find Richard’s books here at the Stettler Public Library or through other Parkland libraries (www.spl.prl.ab.ca).

But Richard’s Zoom visit is just a tiny bit of what you can find throughout Stettler in September. Cooking classes, a paint night, a genealogy workshop, a sketching class, a chance to create art with clay, a pysanky workshop, and a Battle of the Borscht! That are just some of the incredible events that are taking place during Culture Days in Stettler. Check out Stettler’s Alberta Culture Days on the web (www.stettlerculturedays.com) to see a full list of happenings during September; remember to check regularly because events are being added all the time.
