The Association of Communities Against Abuse seeks to fill the volunteer position of: Board Member


ACAA is the primary sexual abuse and sexual assault service provider in the East Central Region of Alberta, delivering specialized counselling, crisis services and education. For over 30 years, ACAA has offered leadership, expertise and compassionate services to lessen the impact of trauma, and to support the health and wellbeing of the entire community. The agency is governed by a voluntary board of directors, made up of representatives from various locations throughout the region.


Responsibilities:

-Define the overall purpose, goals and general direction of the agency.

-Be bound by ACAA’s Code of Conduct

-Approve the annual budget, fundraising goals and monitor the financial health of the organization.

-Approve staff job descriptions as developed by the Executive Director and Board Personnel Committee, hiring of personnel and personnel policies.

-Evaluate the Executive Director -Establish standing and ad-hoc committees as required.

-Establish, review and approve general policy to govern the management, programs and services of the Association and abide by the Association’s Policies, Procedures and By-laws.

-Establish and maintain a contingency fund. -Monitor all grievances, and disciplinary actions.

-Review minutes and other relevant materials prior to meetings.

-Attend monthly board meetings (10 times per year), prepared to raise questions, suggestions and participate in discussions.

-Promote and raise awareness of ACAA’s programs and services throughout the region.


Qualifications:

-Strong community relationships, ability to develop new partnerships, and knowledge of community needs and trends required. Knowledge of financial management, charitable operations, criminal justice system, sexual violence, and/or domestic violence preferred

-Possess an anti-oppressive analysis of sexual violence

-Exceptional inter-personal communication skills

-Strong organizational and planning skills

-Flexibility, adaptability and creative problem solving skills required Willingness to work hard to achieve the highest quality results


Location: Meetings take place at the ACAA Central Office in Stettler, AB once per month.
