Town of Stettler Sports Fields Close for Improvements

Updated: Sep 9, 2021

The Turf Revitalization Plan has been expedited from the initial five-year strategy

As of June 4th, 2020, all Town of Stettler sports fields will be temporarily closed for improvements. The Town of Stettler has identified a need to enhance the overall quality of the fields in coordination with the various user groups of the ball diamonds and soccer fields.

The Turf Revitalization Plan includes the following facilities, consisting of seven (7) ball diamonds and four (4) soccer fields:

  • Stettler Sports Park (All Fields and Ball Diamonds)

  • West Stettler Park (All Fields and Ball Diamonds)

  • RCMP Soccer Field

  • Parkdale Ball Diamond

The initial sports field improvement strategy was scheduled over a five (5) year timeline, with different fields being attended to each year. However, due to the temporary restriction of organized group recreation under the Government of Alberta’s COVID-19 regulations, an opportunity has arisen to work on all fields simultaneously without disrupting seasonal sports.

The improvement process will include soil sampling, de-thatching, aeration, top dressing, over-seeding, fertilizing, irrigation, mowing and weed control. Through these improvements, the Town of Stettler hopes to provide field facilities that are consistently of a high quality and safe for everyone to enjoy.

Signage will be posted to remind residents of the closures throughout the duration of the improvement process. The fields will reopen to residents when the seeding and growth phases have made sufficient progress. In the meantime, the Town of Stettler encourages residents to make use of other green spaces and parks.

We thank you for your cooperation as we work to provide high-quality recreation facilities for our residents and visitors.
