Shortly before 10 am on Saturday, August 29th, 2020, emergency services were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a gravel truck and trailer a few kilometres east of Byemoor, Alberta on Highway 589.

Stettler, Big Valley and Byemoor Fire Departments responded in addition to Stettler Emergency Medical Services and Stettler RCMP.

Both vehicles involved were reported to be in the ditch via dispatch as first responders rolled to the scene.

The occupants of the vehicles sustained unverifiable levels of injury with one individual trapped in their vehicle and requiring extraction. As emergency crews worked to free the occupant, traffic was blocked and rerouted off the highway in both directions.

Once STARS had arrived the patient was readied for transport and loaded aboard the helicopter, which then took off in the direction of Calgary at approximately 11:30 am.

After STARS had left, responders remained on scene as the investigation into the matter continued into the afternoon hours.
