The County of Stettler has an exciting and unique career opportunity for an experienced professional who will bring positive and organized management to the position of Manager of Strategic Initiatives.
The Manager of Strategic Initiatives facilitates shaping the county’s long-term vision, driving innovation, and ensuring effective implementation of key projects and initiatives.
Reporting to the Director of Municipal Services, this position will provide advice and assistance to Council, senior administration and staff with respect to special projects management, external contractor relations, and project stakeholder relations.
An ideal candidate would possess the following preferred qualifications and skills:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. public administration, land use planning, communications, business).
Several years of experience in strategic planning, project management, public administration or a related role.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to comprehend complex information.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Familiarity with local government operations and policies.
Class 5 Driver's License.
Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Vision: Collaborate with senior leadership and elected officials to develop and refine the county’s strategic plan and ongoing strategic priorities. Identify opportunities for growth, efficiency, and community development.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal departments, external agencies, community organizations, and residents. Engage stakeholders to gather input, address concerns, and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
Performance Measurement: Establish timelines and key performance indicators for strategic initiatives. Regularly assess progress, identify bottlenecks, and propose corrective actions.
Budget Oversight: Manage budgets related to strategic initiatives. Allocate resources efficiently and track expenditures.
Policy Development: Work closely with legal and policy teams to develop and update policies that support the county’s strategic objectives. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Project Management: Lead and oversee special projects from inception to completion. This includes defining project scope, setting milestones, allocating resources, and monitoring progress.
Collaboration and Communication: Foster a collaborative work environment by coordinating project management across departments. Communicate progress, successes, and challenges to senior leadership and the broader organization.
Interdepartmental Coordination: Coordinate processes that span multiple departments and evaluate workflows for efficiencies. Directly provide clerical support to implement interdepartmental processes.
Data Analysis and Research: Conduct research, analyze data, and provide evidence-based recommendations to inform decision-making. Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the county’s strategic priorities.
Community Services: Serve as the primary point of contact for community groups and oversee partnerships with community organizations.
Special Events: Assist in coordinating special events and programs designed to enhance the County’s corporate image.
Council, Committee, and Departmental Support: Provide back up support in the preparation of meetings, agenda packages, documents and minutes.
