Local Spotlight on Candidate Wayne G Smith

StettlerLocal.com September 23, 2021 @4:15pm

Why are you running?

I have loved being a part of town council for the last four years. This is an excellent community and I am proud to be a part of it. I feel it is a tremendous honour to represent the citizens of this town in the important decision-making process. It does take a while to get a feel for how things work and how best to serve, and now I feel I have good momentum to move forward for the next four years.

What riding are you running for?

Stettler town council

What is your background?

I was born and raised in Bowden, Alberta, and I've spent most of my life in Alberta. I also lived in England for two years and Toronto for four years where I attended Chiropractic College. After graduation, I moved to Stettler in 2003 to open my own clinic, and I have been here ever since. My wife and I have 5 daughters ages 21 down to 11. I've spent many years involved in community groups and projects, and have really enjoyed serving this community on town council for the last 4 years.

What do you hope to accomplish if you win?

The service on town council is one of collaboration and steady forward progress. Accomplishments are not measured individually, but collectively. I'm proud of the part I have played on many boards including FCSS, the Museum, Airport, and the Heartland Beautification Committee. I intend to continue striving for progress in all of these areas and in any other committees to which I am assigned. It is a solemn responsibility to represent the needs and desires of the community, and I take that seriously. I strive to be attentive to the questions and concerns of each individual and bring those sentiments to council decisions.

Anything else you would like to let people know?

I think Stettler is awesome! It is the best community I have lived in by far, but awesomeness doesn't happen by accident, it takes deliberate, careful planning and good policy decisions. I am committed to helping continue this progress.

Thank you to Wayne G Smith for participating in our Candidate Spotlights.
