A three alarm fire saw Stettler, Big Valley and Byemoor Fire Departments respond to a fully engulfed tractor trailer containing a load of bales on Highway 56, just north of Big Valley, at approximately 7:45 am on Monday, August 17th, 2020.

RCMP were also on scene and traffic was detoured as fire trucks and additional heavy equipment were deployed to assist in containing and extinguishing the blaze.

The burning smell extended well beyond the visible smoke, which could be seen pouring throughout the valley area creating reduced visibility for kilometres, as emergency crews worked fervently to bring the situation under control.

Multiple calls for additional water were made within a few hours of the initial call for service, as the fire continued to prove difficult for first responders to extinguish and work continued into the afternoon hours.

By 2 pm the incident was successfully cleared as on scene personnel took the necessary precautions to finish clearing the scene to allow for traffic to resume as normal.

No one was reported as having sustained any injuries as a result of this incident and the investigation is ongoing at this time.
