Gender Equality Week: Statement from Minister Aheer

Provincial Press Release September 21, 2020 @ 10:26 AM published at 10:31 AM.

Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women Leela Sharon Aheer issued the following statement recognizing Gender Equality Week:

“This week, we shine a light on a cause that truly benefits everyone’s health, economic security and happiness.

“Gender Equality Week recognizes the benefits of equality for women, men and people of all gender identities. Alberta’s government is dedicated to addressing and reducing gender discrimination in our province, and we are taking action.

“This week, I am meeting with key stakeholders from across the province to discuss new and innovative ways to combat gender-based violence in our communities; encourage women to pursue rewarding careers in non-traditional fields like science, technology, engineering, math and the trades; and how we can engage men and boys to be champions for change.

“I want to thank all Albertans – advocates, community groups, non-profits and volunteers past and present – who work tirelessly to address gender inequality in our province. Your fierce passion has brought us so far.

“I ask Albertans to look for ways they can take action all year long to promote gender equality in our communities and the workplace. If you are looking for inspiration, follow #GenderEqualityAB online.

“We will be amazed at what we can achieve when everyone, regardless of gender, can reach their full potential.”
