Clearview Public Schools is pleased to announce that Christine Roland has been selected by our Board of Trustees to represent Clearview as our nominee for the 2021 Alberta School Board Association (ASBA) Zone 4 Edwin Parr Teacher Award. Christine is in her first year teaching at Byemoor School.

The Edwin Parr Award recognizes outstanding work by first year teachers in Alberta. Established in 1964, it represents quality teaching and exemplary work.

In her nomination letter, Principal Keith wrote,

“It is with great pleasure that I nominated Christine Roland as a candidate for the 2021 Edwin Parr Award. She is extremely dedicated to her students, works well with her colleagues, and is committed to contributing to a positive school culture. We are very lucky to have such a positive and enthusiastic member as part of our Byemoor School Community.”

“Christine is able to inspire success and love of learning in her students regardless of the daunting challenges this year has presented,” said Superintendent Brenda MacDonald. “Christine demonstrates the heart and soul of a teacher and we can not be more fortunate to have her, along with so many other great teachers in the Clearview family. Our students are in good hands for many years to come.”

Christine grew up on a ranch northeast of Castor. She attended Theresetta Catholic School in Castor and graduated from Gus Wetter School in 2016. Immediately after high school, Christine began the Elementary Education Transfer program at Red Deer College. She was accepted into the Red Deer College and University of Alberta Middle Years Program and graduated in April 2020 with a Bachelor of Elementary Education.

“I am honoured and very thankful to be nominated for the Edwin Parr Award. I would like to thank the students, staff, parents, and community of Byemoor School for their support, kindness, and willingness to learn with me. I would also like to thank the Board of Trustees for putting forth my nomination. I truly love teaching and learning, and I am fortunate to do both with my wonderful students and colleagues.” - Christine Roland

Christine teaches Gr. 4-9 math, Gr. 4-9 science, Gr. 4-9 physical education, Gr. 4-6 music, Gr. 7-9 options, and shares duties for K-3 physical education. In addition to teaching, Christine co-coached the Gr. 4-9 volleyball team and coached the Gr. 6-9 badminton team. Christine also hosts an after-school mindfulness program.

Outside of school, Christine enjoys cooking, playing crib, camping, and spending time with her friends and family.

The ASBA Zone 4 nominees will be celebrated at a virtual event on May 31, 2021 where the Zone 4 winner will be announced.
