Canadian Northern Railway 125th Ann. - Big Valley - Jul 9

Big Valley, Alberta Train Station from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm - FREE - Bring your family.


11:00 am Station, roundhouse and exhibits open. Guided tours begin. Rosco the Magic Clown performing children’s clown show at station street side lawn.


Historic railway characters will be at various stations throughout the rail yards. Get your ticket punched at each station to have it entered in a draw at the end of the day.


12:00 – 1:00 pm Off the Rails Band (https://www.albertamusic.org/directory-profile/off-the-rails-2/) performing at roundhouse stage. Roundhouse stage is between the Elevator and Roundhouse on the east side of the tracks.


1:00 – 1:45 pm Rosco Krawece, local entertainer, performing at roundhouse stage.


2:00 pm Roundhouse stage presentation (approx. 45 min).


a) Opening address describing the significance of the Canadian Northern Railway, how the Alberta Midland Railway is an example of Mackenzie and Mann’s strategy and why Big Valley is the best remaining example of this enterprise.


b) Address by local railroaders (actors) from the 1911 period. They are looking back at the achievements of the Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR) in Nation building and looking to the future of the CNoR.


c)To close off the time capsule, present day families or relations to CNoR employees talk about their family’s legacy and how it contributed to their lives in present day. Include the fact that this is the last piece of CNoR rail left and link the fact that it is still serving the community. This makes it relevant today.
