The County of Stettler has an exciting opportunity for a seasonal employee to join our team in the position of Bylaw Officer from May-September.
This position will support our Planning Services and our Protective Services departments and offer the right candidate a variety of duties involved in ensuring compliance through community visits and the promotion of community awareness and education.
The Bylaw Officer will perform duties related to Municipal Bylaws and Provincial Statues including reviewing enforcement, conducting bylaw assessments, education and awareness within the County of Stettler. This position will responsible for enforcement of violations of County of Stettler Bylaws, including the Land Use Bylaw, Unsightly Premises Bylaw and other duties as assigned. Enforcement initiatives ranges from gaining voluntary compliance when possible, to site clean-up, and the issuing of tickets when required.
The Bylaw Officer will be responsible for conducting proactive patrols and site visits within the County of Stettler as well as documenting and maintaining records and providing support to Planning services and Protective Services.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Grade 12 diploma and seeking education in law-enforcement
Alberta Class 5 driver’s license with an acceptable drivers abstract
First Aid and CPR certification desired
An understanding of GPS and GIS technology and its applications
Skills and Abilities:
Good working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act and municipal bylaws
Exceptional customer service related skills and excellent conflict resolution skills
Ability to respond courteously and professionally using tact and discretion
Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to work independently or in a team situation
Possess sound judgement and decision making skills
Physical ability to perform duties in all weather conditions with a requirement to work on weekends and statutory holidays on a rotation
