Alberta curriculum changes

Release from Clearview Public Schools March 31, 2021 @ 3:27pm published at 4:00pm

On Monday, March 29, 2021, Alberta Education released the long-awaited Kindergarten to Grade 6 draft curriculum, also known as the Programs of Study. The provincial curriculum defines what students are expected to know, understand and do in each subject and grade.

Clearview staff will now have an opportunity to have an in-depth look into the curriculum, to trial and evaluate the curriculum, and to provide feedback.

The broad-based engagement strategy and survey planned by Alberta Education is an opportunity for our community's many voices to be heard. The curriculum is intended to help prepare children for their future, and we have an opportunity and responsibility to be a part of the curriculum development process by completing the survey.

Clearview was additionally pleased that Alberta Education would be providing professional development funding for teachers as they learn and navigate these six new curriculums.

We were also appreciative of the opportunity to pilot the new curriculum and work collaboratively with Alberta Education to make this the best possible new curriculum for Alberta students.

During the 2022-2023 school year, all Alberta elementary students are expected to be learning from the new Kindergarten to Grade six curriculum.
